SAN FRANCISCO—Thirteen local businesses were added to the Legacy Business Registry by the Small Business Commission on Monday, November 28.

Legacy Businesses are those that have existed for 30 or more years and have proven to be culturally or historically impactful. According to the Legacy Business Registry’s website, the program provides grants “to any business on the registry, as well as [to] property owners who extend long-term leases to legacy businesses.”

The 13 businesses that were approved in Monday’s Small Business Commission meeting include:

1. Bay Area Video Coalition, Inc.
2. Blue Bear School of Music
3. Bo’s Flower Stand
4. Café du Nord
5. Caffe Trieste
6. Cartoon Art Museum of California
7. Castro Country Club
8. Cole Hardware
9. Galeria de la Raza
10. Golden Bear Sportswear
11. Sam’s Grill and Seafood Restaurant
12. San Francisco Heritage

The motion to approve these businesses was passed 5-0, with two commissioners absent from the meeting. The Legacy Business Registry is open to 300 businesses and nonprofits per year, with the understanding that every business or nonprofit that applies for Legacy Business status will retain its original name and purpose.
