SAN FRANCISCO—A brand new Muni train is expected to arrive on Friday, January 13. San Francisco’s public transportation is set for an overhaul, as it releases fresh public vehicles from the series – “Fleet from the Future.” The Sfexaminer reported, 64 new rail carriages will be rolled out through 2020, of which 40 are scheduled to be released before 2018. The vehicles are expected to increase the muni fleet by 50 percent.

Before the new trains hit the roads, the Muni trains will undergo a series of mechanical “testing.” Material of the current seats are comprised of fiberglass, but sources report that individual seats will be replaced by bright red benches. The new design will include improved texture for better grip.

Several public surveys conducted resulted in about 50 feature improvements in the new train cars. New features include LED lit signage inside the vehicles, informing riders of the car they are in, at all times. New carriages will also have a new and improved wheel-chair access system. The sand bags previously used for applying breaks will now be hidden under a panel that contains switches to control wheel-chair access.
