HOLLYWOOD—Actress Peggy Lipton passed away May 11, at the age of 72 from colon cancer. Lipton was diagnosed back in 2004 and was battling the disease for 15 years. Fans of Lipton’s and her friends shared their condolences via social media.

Actress Madchen Amick posted on Instagram, “I lost a sister today. She was a true angel on earth. Always that coolest in the room. You couldn’t fit anymore love into that gorgeous soul of hers and she shared her heart generously with everyone around her. She was such a proud mother. Loved her girls more than anything in the world. I will always love you Peggy. I hope to dance with you in the stars one day.”

Comedian Kathy Griffin posted on Twitter, “I’m heartbroken. I had the opportunity to work with Peggy for a few days on a film. I absolutely fell in love with her. I honestly have always thought of Peggy as…perfect. Honest, funny, nurturing, oh and loved some good juicy gossip.”

Her daughters Kidada Jones and Rashida Jones said in a public statement that, “Peggy was, and will always be our beacon of light, both in this world and beyond. She will always be a part of us.”

Actor Billy Baldwin posted on Twitter, “So sad to hear about #PeggyLipton from the #ModSquad to #TwinPeaks and everything in between. Sweet, kind, beautiful & very cool. What a career… what a life. Love, light, strength & prayers for Quincy, Kidada & Rashida. She always made me smile and ALWAYS made my heart flutter.”

Lipton was born Margaret Ann Lipton August 30, 1946 in New York City. She was an American actress, singer, and model who got her first modeling gig with the Ford Modeling agency.

She was best known for her character “Julie Barnes” on the 1960s television show “The Mod Squad” for which she won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress. She had a 50-year career in television, on stage, and in film.

Lipton was married to record and movie producer Quincy Jones from 1974 to 1990, where they had two children together, Kidada Jones and Rashida Jones.
