SAN FRANCISCO—A suspect was arrested by San Francisco Police Department Homicide Investigators involving a homicide that took place on August 23 in the area of Market and 7th Street, according to a press release from the SFPD. Anthony Jones, 31, was arrested in connection with the death of Evaristo Rocha-Rodriguez.

On August 23 around 12:55 a.m., Rocha-Rodriguez was assaulted by the suspect near Market and 7th Street. The victim succumbed to his injuries on September 13. The investigation revealed that Rocha-Rodriguez passed due to blunt force head trauma.

The SFPD Homicide Detail’s investigation was able to develop leads that led to the identification of Jones as the suspect in the incident. On September 29 around 4:03 p.m., Tenderloin Police Station officers took Jones into custody near Market and Jones Street. Jones was booked at the San Francisco County Jail for voluntary manslaughter, assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm, and a probation violation.

The SFPD had no additional information to add to the case when San Francisco News called, and directed San Francisco News to contact the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office. San Francisco News reached out to the District Attorney’s Office and is awaiting a reply.
