Life in the hillside can be sketchy, especially for cell phone service.
A useless phone fact until you’re in deep do-do - the Emergency Number worldwide for mobile phones is 112. What’s important for locals is that if you’re not getting service on your network, dial 11.  Your phone will hunt for any available network and drop in on it.  Then locally you can dial 911.  Worldwide you can dial 112 for emergency service.  112 can even be dialed from a phone that you’ve just ripped off and the keypad is locked. Just in time for Spring Break in Cabo.
Ali Baba’s voice command “Open O’ Simsim”  to have the cave door open has nothing on today’s technology.  You too can seemingly open your car door with magic.  Have you ever lost your keyless remote car door opener?  Or worse yet – opps - locked it in the car?  Don’t panic, there is a solution in your pocket.
Use your cell to phone home.  While you hold your cell to the door or front windshield where the door sensor is likely to be located, have home hit the unlock button. Shizammm!  Your door should open.  Be grateful for the small wonders of modern technology.
I’m amazed at the kind of commands a  phone savant can get their cell phone to obey for free or next to nothing.  Ever been in your car and said to yourself,” I love that song!” What’s the title?  Yup, cell phone @ your service - logon to: http://mobile.yes.com which will tell you what was on and what will be on the radio station you are listening to.   No more waking up at 2 AM finally remembering the name of that song.
And a number that should be your BFF.  Dial 888-FRUCALL, enter the bar code of the product you are looking at in the store - this nifty number will tell you what you're looking at and what online merchants are selling it for.  Whow... knowing you’re always getting a bargain!  This one deserves “speed dial #1”.
Do you have a few pennies in your pocket?  There are some cell phone services that you say to yourself: “How did I ever live without this stuff?”  Are you out there on the dating scene?  www.popularitydailer.com is for you.  You can program a call to yourself at a scheduled time.  It plays one of several pre-recorded “half conversations".  You can even practice holding up your end of this phone-y conversation so you know what to expect.  Right now the FCC is all over the company.  Be patient for when they come back on line.
You can also program your cell phone to communicate with your TiVo.  It’s a must to be able to program your TiVo while you’re away from home.  You probably need an 8 year old to deal with this one. It is set up originally from your TiVo.
