OAKLAND—The Golden State Warriors let the ball drop in Thursday’s game against the Denver Nuggets on April 10, 2008. More than 20,000 Warrior fans showed up to the Oracle Arena to show their support for their team. The Warriors were defeated by the Nuggets 114-105. At this point, the Warriors' chances of making it to the playoffs are slowly slipping away; with less than five games left in the season, it is crucial for the team to win almost all of their remaining games if they want to clinch that 8th spot in the Western Conference playoffs from the Nuggets.
The two teams have battled for that position for weeks now, and by next week we’ll know who came out on top. The Golden State Warriors controlled the pace of the game in the first quarter leading the Nuggets 37 to 22, but the Nuggets eventually fought back in the second quarter scoring 39 points. At halftime, the Nuggets led the Warriors by 1 point, 61-60. The Warriors put up a battle throughout the rest of the game, but the Nuggets had too much fight for the Warriors to handle. Leading the Nuggets to victory was Allen Iverson, who scored 33 points in Thursday’s game, followed by Carmelo Anthony who scored 25 points, shooting 12-20.
The Warriors haven’t been playing with the intensity that they normally play with. The team has lost 9 of their last 16 games. With the playoffs right around the corner, the team must treat every game like it’s their last. Leading the Warriors in scoring was Monta Ellis who had 29 points in the game. Following close behind him was Baron Davis who scored 20 points, 11 assists and had 10 rebounds in the game. The Warriors battle the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday, April 12, 2008 and then face the Phoenix Suns on Monday, April 14.
