DALLAS—The Golden State Warriors are skating on thin ice.  After losing to the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday, April 1, 2008, the Warriors lost to the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday, April 2, 2008, 111-86.  This is the first time the Warriors have lost back to back games since the beginning of the season.

The Warriors have now fallen out of that eagerly sought after 8th spot in the Western Conference Playoff race.  The Denver Nuggets now hold on to that position, and the Dallas Mavericks now hold the 7th place spot in the playoff race.  That final spot has been a tight three way race between the Dallas Mavericks, the Denver Nuggets and the Golden State Warriors in the recent weeks.

The Mavericks pounded the Warriors in Wednesday’s game with their all-star line-up which included newly acquired Jason Kidd who was all over the court.  Dirk Nowitzki scored 18 points in the game, after returning to the team after injuring his ankle.  Putting huge numbers on the scoreboard was Jason Terry who scored 31 points; following close behind him was Josh Howard who had 28 points.

The Warriors recently beat the Mavericks on Sunday, March 30, 2008 114-104 in Oakland.   The Warriors are currently on a four game road trip.  The Mavericks had control of the game since tip off.  The Warriors trailed Dallas most of the game and the team’s players weren’t playing their best.  Stephen Jackson shot an awful 1 of 11, while AL Harrington scored only 6 points.  Leading the team in scoring was Monta Ellis who scored 27 points, not too far behind him was Baron Davis who had 20 points in the game.

The Warriors now stand with a record of (45-30), two games behind Dallas and a ½ game behind Denver.  With only a few more games left in the season it’s do or die time for the Warriors if they want to make it to the playoffs.  Either they win or go home.
