OAKLAND—It was the team’s best record in nearly 15 years (48-34), but that wasn’t good enough to secure the Golden State Warriors a position in the Western Conference Playoffs. The Warriors ended their final game of the season with a loss to the Seattle Supersonics on Wednesday, April 16, 2008. The Supersonics held off the Warriors, 126-121 for the win. Leading the Supersonics in scoring was Kevin Durant, who had 42 points and 13 rebounds in the game. Trailing behind Durant was Jeff Green, who scored 27 points.

        The Warriors had been in a heated battle with the Denver Nuggets for that final playoff spot in the recent weeks.  The teams in the West have been playing with such intensity and poise all season. All of the teams that made it to the playoffs in the West had 50 wins or more this season. The Warriors had opportunities to clinch that final spot, but after losing to the Denver Nuggets on Thursday, April 10, 2008, things didn’t look so bright. What sealed the team’s fate was their loss to the Phoenix Suns on Monday, April 14, 2008.

          Leading the Warriors in scoring in Wednesday’s game was Monta Ellis, who had 24 points; behind Ellis was Baron Davis, who scored 21 points and Andris Biedrins, who had 20 points in the game.  The future of the Warriors is also in the air, as superstar Baron Davis can choose to opt out of his contract if he wishes, and the team’s head coach Don Nelson has yet to decide whether he’ll return for another season.  Let’s hope all do, and hope for better luck for next season.  Go Warriors!
