Just two weeks ago, I wrote about a family court judge in New Zealand in the column titled “Celebrities Beware.” What a difference a country makes. According to The Associated Press, authorities in Stockholm, Sweden can now name their newborns “Budweiser,” “Guns N Roses” or “Metallica” if they wish. Swedish tax authorities, for decades, had banned parents from naming their children after fast food chains, rock bands or their favorite brand of beer. Lars Tegenfeldt, a Swedish tax authority spokesman, says the guidelines have been relaxed. “There is nothing negative about a name like “Coca-Cola or McDonald’s today,” he says. “In the 1970s, maybe it was.” Authorities, although, still draw the line about naming your child God, Allah or Devil.
Madonna, on the other hand, hopes to become a mother of Mercy. A tabloid in Britain is reporting that Madonna is ready to adopt a 3-year-old Malawian girl named Mercy. According to the British tabloid, The Sun, the adoption had been in the works; however it was derailed by problems with her marriage to Guy Ritchie. Liz Rosenberg, Madonna’s rep, says the reports the singer plans to adopt a 3-year-old girl from Malawi are false. “Madonna has not made an attempt to adopt this baby earlier this year or now,” Rosenberg tells Usmagazine.com. Interestingly enough, we all know how inaccurate her rep was in 2006, when she called reports that Madonna had adopted a 1-year-year old Malawian boy “completely inaccurate.” And you’re wondering what the “Queen of Pop” will be wearing in her upcoming “Sticky and Sweet” world tour? The French fashion house Givenchy says it is to dress Madonna for the world tour. Givenchy spokeswoman Caroline Deroche-Pasquier says venerated label Givenchy Couture has made the pop star's two ensembles. Madonna celebrated her 50th birthday on August 16, the same day the “King of Rock n Roll” died in 1977.
Speaking of fashion, 16-year-old Russian fashion designer Kira Plastinina is taking the fashion world by storm. Kira has opened over 40 stores in Russia and reportedly has plans to open 10 in the U.S. this year. Her store in SoHo, New York, feels like a girl’s ultimate fantasy closet. Kira, whose designs are somewhat flirty, has designed dresses for Paris Hilton, among her VIP clients.
Paris Hilton, who was paid $1 million for “acting services” and “reasonable promotion and publicity” for the 2006 film “National Lampoon’s Pledge This!” is being sued by the producers of Worldwide Entertainment Group Inc. Worldwide filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Miami, alleging the 27-year-old heiress-model-actress owes $75,000 in damages for not fulfilling promotional obligations, according to the Associated Press. Hilton is famous for her tabloid exploits and reality TV series “The Simple Life” with co-star Nicole Ritchie.
Nicole Richie is looking for sponsors. You can be a sponsor for the foundation for the as-yet unnamed registry site being guided by DonorsChoose.org and Baby2Baby.org. Nicole Richie is the mastermind behind a new online gift registry that will provide baby products to moms in need. The website is being launched by Nicole and boyfriend Joel Madden through her Richie-Madden Children’s Foundation, the charity she started when she was pregnant with daughter Harlow. Every now and then celebs do something to shock us, and that’s exactly what Nicole has done. This is really great.
Rose’s Scoop: They didn’t even last about six months. According to People, Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer have called it quits. Oy, forget about…. Maniston? Johnifer? Celebrity columnists will never be calling them that.
