SAN FRANCISCO—On Sunday, November 6, the San Francisco 49ers' strong defense and David Akers's four field goals secured the team’s 19-11 victory against the Washington Redskins at FedEx Field.
The 49ers’ current record for the season is 7-1 and a five-game lead in the NFC west. This is the team’s first five-game winning streak in 10 years. First-year coach Jim Harbaugh has enabled the 49ers to maintain their longest winning streak since 1997, and the team is 4-0 for away games.
Meanwhile, the Washington Redskins suffered a fourth consecutive loss for the football season. Last week, the Redskins lost to Buffalo 23-0, which was the first shutout for Redskins’ Head Coach Mike Shanahan.
Shanahan introduced three rookies: Roy Helu, receiver Leonard Hankerson and left guard Maurice Hurt during November 6's football game. However, the Redskins’ offensive line was no match against the 49ers.
Game highlights were Redskins’ rookie running back Roy Helu, who was making his first start for the Redskins and setting a team record of 17 receptions, and 49ers running back Frank Gore, who became the first 49ers player to reach 100 yards rushing in five consecutive games.
The 49ers play their next two games at Candlestick Park against the New York Giants and the Arizona Cardinals.
