SAN FRANCISCO—A feathered fellow with an apparent sense of humor and desire for the spotlight, has been making a name for himself in San Francisco, and that name is Swoops. And this bird has been gaining quite a bit of attention all over the world, for his interactions with locals.
"Swoops," as he is called in the "Attack Bird Chronicles" (ABC) blog, is a small blackbird which has been calling the Financial District home in recent days. It is believed that the energetic bird flies solo, though it is suspected that this avian adventurer may be protecting a nearby nest. The little bird has been mainly sighted around Downtown and the general Financial District, particularly around a City National Bank and California St. and Front St., and anywhere nearby where unsuspecting citizens may have food the bird can swipe. (However, there is no proof currently that only one bird has been responsible for the string of swoopings in recent weeks.)
According to an entry in the ABC blog on Friday, June 12, one resident identified one of the bird's attack spots as a location in the Sunset District, between Sloat and Morningside Dr.
No one has been reported as harmed by the small bird, and many have come to see the unusual sight for themselves. The public response has generally been that of bemusement, even fondness for the little local.
