A street race between two teen drivers led to a head-on collision in the South San Francisco area during early Saturday morning on July 26, said police officials.
The collision, which occurred at 3:09 a.m. on the 200 block of Shaw Road, left one of the drivers, identified as Freddy Aguirre, severely injured.

, who is 18 years old, and Mario Bergen, accompanied by his passenger Jerry Hamilton Jr. (both 19), were "racing down the road side-by-side when they ran head-on into a steel fence and a wall," said Sergeant Joni Lee. According to Sgt. Lee, one of the vehicles was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes and the second vehicle was found unoccupied in an eastbound parking lot, upon police arrival at the scene. The vehicles were identified as a "1987 Mustang and 2002 Mercury-Grand Marquis."
According to a CBS report, police state a failed attempt to manipulate a curve led to the crash.
Both Aguirre and Bergen were charged with "primarily driving too fast," said Sgt. Lee. The drivers are assumedly insured and had valid licenses, stated Lee.
Injuries were sustained by Aguirre, who suffered from a "femur fracture in his left leg and lacerations in the area above his left brow. He was transported to the nearby Kaiser Hospital." Bergen and Hamilton Jr. were not injured by the impact of the accident.
Neither of the drivers were arrested. The police report is being referred to the district attorney for "wreckless driving and illegal street racing," states Lee.
Onlookers were present in their cars, during the racing, upon arrival of the police. Of the street races, Sgt. Lee stated, "they have occurred on Shaw Road before, but not recently that we know of."
