SAN FRANCISCO
—The 6th annual San Francisco Film Critics Circle Awards winners were announced on December 10, 2007. The San Francisco Film Critics Circle includes 24 Bay Area film critics who each year select which movies should be honored. This year's list was impressive as it recognized both veterans and up- and-comers.

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford was named the Best Picture of the year. For his performance as Ford, Casey Affleck was named Best Supporting Actor; Joel and Ethan Coen won Best Director for No Country for Old Men; Amy Ryan won Best Supporting Actress for her role in Gone Baby Gone; Sarah Polley was recognized with Best Adapted Screenplay for turning Alice Munro's The Bear Came Over the Mountain into the film Away from Her; George Clooney was named Best Actor for his work in Michael Clayton; and Julie Christie won Best Actress for playing Fiona Anderson in Away from Her.

No End in Sight was chosen as Best Documentary; Best Original Screenplay went to Tamara Jenkins's The Savages; Julian Schnabel's The Diving Bell and the Butterfly ("Le scaphandre et le papillon") won Best Foreign Language Film; a Special Citation award recognized independent film Colma: The Musical; and last but not least, the Marlon Riggs Award, which honors a local filmmaker who represents courage and innovation in cinema, went to filmmaker Lynn Hershman-Leeson.
