The votes have been cast and we have a new American Idol; Jordin Sparks is our new Idol.  American Idol is not only a singing competition, but also a voting competition. Even though we've heard Randy Jackson, tell us “AI”, is a singing competition over and over. But here is some concrete evidence: Just a few weeks ago we had the season's best singer-sent home, yes Melinda had one of those pure vocal talents. Melinda Doolittle tackled every genre, hit every note consistently, yet it didn't matter. It seems to me what really matters is that you have a bubbly personality, beautiful hair or have a mass appeal to either young people, tweens and teens, or older women. Why was Melinda booted off? While she had a brilliant voice, she was becoming so consistent, that she was boring the audience, along with the judges. Even though she was a professional back-up singer, it seemed that she lacked the confidence to be in the center of the spotlight. Simon Cowell had to tell her to stop making those faces, that seemed that she was shocked that she sang well. Is Simon losing his power as the kingmaker? Even his plea to America: "I want to see my girl Melinda in the finals." No way, that was America's response. Jordin seemed to be the favorite. In the Season of Sanjaya, anything is possible. Who could forget Simon during Sanjaya's journey. He eventually had to stop criticizing the teen, in order to have him booted off. Jordin has that Idol spark. A 17-year-old teenager from Arizona with a powerhouse voice that combines innocence, spontaneity and a teenager full of life. Blake on the other hand, the 25-year-old that hails from Bothell, Washington has made it far, as a contemporary artist. It just goes to show you, how far beat-boxing will go. It has come down to this, the Beauty and the Beat-Boxer.

The new champions of the “Disco Ball” trophy on “Dancing With the Stars” is Apolo Anton  Ohno, and his partner Julianne Hough. Let’s analyze why he won: Throughout the season, he was the most consistent, his partner Julianne Hough loved to take risks with their choreography. Apolo never over performed his dancing, and he dazzled the audience and the viewers with his freestyle dance, which was simply the highlight of the entire season.
Celebrities flocked to the 60th annual Cannes International Film Festival that took place May 16 through May 27. Some A-listers hit the red carpet dripping in diamonds and precious stones, to the extent of torturing earlobes with long, dangling earrings. One of Hollywood’s hottest couples were Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, who were present to promote the movie produced by Pitt titled  “A Mighty Heart’, which stars Miss Jolie as the widow of Daniel Pearl, the Wall Street Journal reporter who was murdered by Islamic militants.
Paris Hilton who’ll be doing a stint in the slammer, beginning on June 5 for 23 days for violating probation was recently spotted by the New York Post carrying the “Holy Bible”, and another inspirational book “The Power of Now”. No cellphones, or sidekick’s are allowed at the Century Regional Detention Center in Lynwood, Cal. Perhaps she'll read Canyon News' "Star Gazing" column.

Rose’s Scoop: AC Milan defeated Liverpool in Athens, Greece 2-1 on May 23. Congratulations to the 2007 UEFA cup champions AC Milan. Such is soccer. Finally, on a very sad note, no word on Madeleine McCann, as of press time. The toddler who turned 4-years-old on May 12, has caught the attention of the world. The disappearance of Maddie has caught the attention of not only Manchester United soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo, but David Beckham, J.K. Rowling, Sir Richard Branson, and Simon Cowell. This is not the first time a child has disappeared in Algarve, Portugal.  In 1990 there was a similar case. The child has never been found. The www.findmadeleine.com website as of  May 21, had 115 million hits.
