SAN FRANCISCO - Menu Foods, a major manufacturer of several varieties of pet foods, recalled over 60 million containers of cuts and gravy style wet pet foods on Friday. The dog and cat foods are sold in numerous area Walmart, Safeway, and Kroger stores. The recall comes on the heels of an immense increase in the influx of pet related deaths after the consumption of Menu Foods products.

According to reports, the president of Menu Foods says that the actual cause of the product contamination is not known, but that the company has recently switched several ingredients in its usual recipe of their dog and cat foods. One of the ingredients that has been changed was the protein wheat gluten. The wheat gluten in products purchased from December 3, 2006 through March 6, 2007 contain the new ingredients. During these dates is when the Menu Foods items have been recalled for.

Symptoms that have resulted from the infection in pets are vomiting and kidney failure, according to many owners.

Menu Foods has listed the products that are under the recall on their website at

www.menufoods.com/recall . Presently, this is the only means of receiving any answers to several pressing questions. At press time, no representative is being reached to answer these questions. The company has listed the products that have been recalled on their website. Attempts to reach customer service, via the telephone, result in long waiting and consistent busy signals.

Menu Foods operates several offices all over the country. The recall is active for all of North America.
