SAN FRANCISCO—On June 19, the man found dead in a parking lot in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park, has been identified by the medical examiner as 31-year-old Robert Matats.

Matats's body was discovered early morning on June 18 in Kezar Stadium's parking lot, according to police.

"This was a Medical Examiner case that is now a homicide, and the death was by stabbing," Sergeant Lyn Tomioka, of the San Francisco Police Department, told The San Francisco News.  "It is an active investigation, but no details are being released yet, and no arrest has been made in the case."

Matats had been known as a homeless individual who had frequented Haight Street.  He had a record for minor offenses such as drinking in public and panhandling.  He had also formerly lived in and near the Golden Gate Park.
