SAN FRANCISCO—San Francisco held its first World Cup of RollerSoccer on August 14-17, 2008 and USA was the world champion of the day after a penalty kick victory over France.
The sport is described by organizers as soccer on skates and a combination of a hockey and soccer arena. The game is played within a rink.
This was the first time the World Cup was held in Northern America. Seven teams were representing the nine countries that competed in the RollerSoccer’s Sixth Annual World Cup.

The game originally started in San Francisco in 1995, as well as the RollerSoccer international Federation, which is also based in San Francisco.
The countries that participated in the World Cup included Belgium, Brazil, England, France, Germany, India, Italy, the Netherlands and the U.S.
Tickets for the RollerSoccer World Cup ran from $5 up to $25. The event included public transportation, which was provided to Treasure Island YMCA where the event was held. The transportation was provided every 20 minutes from San Francisco on a bus.
