SAN FRANCISCO The San Francisco Giants were unable to complete a sweep of the San Diego Padres in their three game series against the team on Sunday, August 3, 2008.   The Giants lost to the Padres 4-1.  Emmanuel Buriss scored his team’s only run during the 1st inning of Sunday’s game.   San Diego tied up the game after scoring a run in the 2nd inning.   The score was at a virtual stand still until the 6th inning, where the Padres scored a run taking over the lead, 2-1.

From there, the rest of the game was history as San Diego advanced their lead over San Francisco.   The Giants were only able to manage four hits in the entire game.   Two of those hits were courtesy of Randy Winn, who also had one RBI in the game.    Players Rich Aurilia and Dave Roberts had one hit each.   On the other side of the spectrum, the Padres were able to capture six hits during the game.

Leading San Diego to victory were players Judy Gerut, Brian Giles, Kevin Kouzmanoff and Nick Hundley who all scored one run each in the game.   Giles, Kouzmanoff and Handley had one RBI each, while players Gerut and Giles had two hits apiece.   The Giants weren’t able to get their offense going after scoring in the 1st inning and that may have to do with the pitching by San Diego star Greg Maddux who gave a strong performance in Sunday’s victory.  Maddux only gave up two hits and one run during the six innings he played.  He also had one strike out in the game.

San Francisco pitcher Kevin Correia didn’t fare much better.   He gave up three hits and two runs during the six innings he pitched for his team.   He did manage to strike out three players. San Diego is currently in fifth place in the NL West with a record of 43-69.  The Giants are in fourth place in the NL West with a record of 46-64.
