WASHINGTON— The San Francisco Giants were able to bounce back from a two-game losing streak in their series against the New York Mets with a win against the Washington Nationals on Friday, June 6, 2008.   The Giants defeated the Nationals by a landslide, 10-1.   Leading the team to victory was Fred Lewis, who scored two runs, one hit and two RBI’s in Friday’s game.  Third baseman Jose Castillo had one run, one hit and three RBI’s in the game.   Both Randy Winn and Bengie Molina had one run and two hits apiece for the team. Molina also scored a single RBI. Second baseman Ray Durham had three hits in the game, one run and one RBI.

          Leading the Washington Nationals in scoring was Ryan Langerhans who scored the teams only run during the 6th inning of the game.   The Giants scored their first run in the second inning and only exploded afterwards.  The team scored seven runs in the third inning, leaving the Nationals in the dust. Castillo was able to hit a home run which allowed the team to capture an additional three runs with the bases being loaded.   The Giants offense slowed down afterwards until, the seventh and eighth innings where they scored additional runs (one each).

          The Giants had a total of 15 hits in Friday’s game compared to the Nationals, who only had 5. The Nationals also had one error in the game. Right fielder Elijah Dukes scored a single RBI for Washington.  San Francisco pitcher Tim Lincecum delivered a strong performance in Friday’s game to help his team capture the victory.  He gave up only one run and five hits during the seven innings that he played.  Lincecum threw a total of 83 pitches in the game, more than half which were strikes. The Washington Nationals have record of 25-37, compared to the Giants 26-35.   Up next for the Giants is a three game series against the Colorado Rockies.
