San Francisco Giants Sweep the Arizona Diamond Backs in 3 game series

PHOENIXThe San Francisco Giants are on a roll.  After defeating the Diamond Backs on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 11-3 the Giants defeated Arizona on Thursday, May 29, 2008 4-3, winning their series against the team.   The Diamond Backs came back with a vengeance in Thursday’s game, but it wasn’t enough to hold of the Giants who broke a 3-3 tie in the 9th inning with a home run by right fielder Randy Winn.   Winn scored 2 runs, 3 hits and had 2 RBI’s in the game.   Center fielder Aaron Rowand scored 1 run and had 2 hits during the team’s victory.

          Arizona got the game off to a strong start after right fielder Justin Upton scored a homerun against San Francisco pitcher Barry Zito in the 2nd inning.   Upton had 2 hits and 2 RBI’s in the game.   Zito gave up 3 runs during the 6 innings that he played, throwing a total of 84 pitches in the game.   He struck out 5 players and walked 3 others.   The Giants had a total of 7 hits compared to Arizona’s 8 hits.  

          Aaron Rowand was injured by a ball thrown by Arizona pitcher Chad Qualls in the 9th and was expected to receive X-Rays on Friday.   The extent of Rowand’s condition has yet to be released to the public.   The Giants now have a record of 23-31 in the NL, while Arizona is still ranked #1 in the National League.
