San Francisco Giants Triumph Over the San Diego Padres

SAN DIEGO—It was a nail bitter for The San Francisco Giants as they sent their game against the San Diego Padres into extra innings on Wednesday, April 23, 2008. The Padres led throughout the game with a 1-0 lead until the 9th inning, where Padres’ pitcher, Trevor Hoffman allowed the Giants to get back into the game when he was unable to hold off Bengie Molina who scored a run.  Molina tied the game 1-1.   Hoffman’s mishap put a hamper in Greg Maddux’s chance to make history on Wednesday night by becoming the 9th pitcher to reach 350 wins. The Padres have lost 7 of 8 of their last games.

The game eventually went to 13 innings with the Giants coming out on top.   Emmanuel Burriss set up a double for his teammates in the inning, which allowed Fred Lewis and Aaron Rowand to score RBI singles.  San Francisco pitcher Matt Cain didn’t have a great night, allowing five singles for the Padres in the 5 th inning of the game.  He did strike out seven batters, and allowed three to walk during the game. The Giants are currently tied in last place with the Padres in the NL West.
