HOLLYWOOD—Britney Spears, 37, checked herself into a mental health clinic for 30 days to cope after learning about the results of her father, James Spears life-threatening illness on Wednesday, April 3.

Spears admission to the clinic was not related to drinking or drugs, but to deal with extreme emotional trauma and mental issues regarding her father’s health.

The pop star wrote on her Instagram page hours before checking into the facility Wednesday the following:

“I don’t even know where to start with this, because this is so tough for me to say. I will not be performing my new show Domination. I’ve been looking forward to this show and seeing all of you this year, so doing this breaks my heart. However, it’s important to always put your family first… and that’s the decision I had to make. A couple of months ago, my father was hospitalized and almost died. We’re all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him. I had to make the difficult decision to put my full focus and energy on my family at this time. I hope you all can understand. More information on ticket refunds is available on britneyspears.com. I appreciate your prayers and support for my family during this time. Thank you, and love you all… always.”

Spear’s father, James was admitted to the hospital in November 2018 for a colon rupture that required two surgeries. Last month he was scheduled for a follow up, and a second surgery was performed recently due to complications he encountered.

Britney’s father, became her conservator after she had a mental breakdown and was diagnosed with Bipolar disorder in 2008.

In 2007, Spears had a public meltdown where she shaved her hair and nearly attacked photographers with an umbrella. The singer divorced dancer Kevin Federline in 2006 who is the father of her two sons, Sean Preston, 13 and Jayden James, 12.

She recently announced her second residency in Las Vegas, “Britney: Domination” at Park MGM’s Park Theatre in October 2018. The first show was slated to begin on February 13, 2019.
