HOLLYWOOD—“Wonder Woman” has thrilled moviegoers for the past 2 weeks, but there is a new champion at the box-office courtesy of some speedy cars. The sequel “Cars 3” zoomed to the top spot with an impressive $53.5 million haul. The animated feature grossed over $75 million globally during its opening weekend.

Still dazzling audiences is “Wonder Woman” whose week after week box-office performance is impressive, adding another $40.8 million in its third weekend in theaters. The flick has already earned over $275 million at the domestic box-office.

The biopic, “All Eyez On Me” chronicling the life of rapper Tupac Shakur debuted in third place with $27.1 million. I suspected this flick to have a bigger debut, but I’m suspecting word of mouth buzz may have hurt the flick. Tom Cruise and “The Mummy” dropped to fourth place with $13.9 million to bring its domestic total to just over $56 million. Not good for Universal Pictures considering the cost to make the movie, but it is indeed a hit globally.

Surprising moviegoers, was the shark thriller “47 Meters Down” with a respectable $11.5 million in only 2,200 theaters to debut in fifth place. The comedy “Rough Night” starring Scarlett Johannsson had a rough debut with a dismal $8.1 million. Action will be in overdrive at theaters this weekend with the fifth installment in the “Transformers” franchise, “Transformers: The Last Knight” arriving in theaters on Wednesday, June 21.
