HOLLYWOOD—Millions of eyes will be glued to the Super Bowl, inevitably the most-watched TV show of each season. Looking into my crystal ball, I predict it will break all records. We all watch the Super Bowl for the game itself, the entertainment and especially for the ads. Thirty-second spots during this year’s Super Bowl are being sold for as much as $5 million.
According to published reports, it’s price of course is up from last year, by 11 percent. Look forward to seeing ads about cars, cash and beer. Expect the usual names like, Coca-Cola, Snickers, and Taco Bell. Plenty of ads for Buick, Honda, Toyota and of course, Mini. The Mini USA is unveiling its star-studded 30-second spot, set to air in the third quarter of the Super Bowl.
The Super Bowl, which will take place on Sunday, February 7, from Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, will be aired on CBS. The Super Bowl is always the best reality television, a real-time game of crushing blows, knife-edge suspense and anguished-sharp looks- and that’s just from the commercials.
Home of the San Francisco 49ers, the Denver Broncos will square off against the Carolina Panthers. Besides the football game in itself, if your looking for entertainment, Coldplay will headline for Super Bowl 50. Since 1996, Coldplay has won seven Grammy Awards and is known for such hits as, “Yellow,” “Fix You” and “Viva La Vida.”
Beyonce’s half-time performance will be a divalicious Super Bowl performance. Remember her performance in 2013, it was so raging hot that it seemed that her performance could have attributed to the power surge at the stadium. The two artists recently collaborated on a pair of songs: “Hymn for the Weekend” and “Up” for Coldplay’s new album “A Head Full of Dreams.”
So who will sing the National Anthem? None other than six-time Grammy winner Lady Gaga. Keeping busy, the Countess will perform at the Grammys, and the Oscars. She’s scheduled to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Academy Award winning actress Marlee Matlin will perform in American Sign Language during the national anthem. Lady Gaga’s upcoming performance during the Super Bowl adds to her resume: She won the Golden Globe for her role in “American Horror Story: Hotel” last month and she’s nominated for best original song at the Academy Awards on February 28 with “Till it Happens to You,” the song she wrote with Diane Warren for the sexual assault documentary, “The Hunting Ground.” The song is also nominated for a Grammy at the February 15 Grammy, where Gaga will pay tribute to David Bowie with a performance.
Who could forget her brilliant performance last year at the Oscars when she paid tribute to “The Sound of Music,” with a show-stopping performance. She won her sixth Grammy for her collaborative jazz album with Tony Bennett, and she was named woman of the year by Billboard.
Hordes of Hollywood celebrities and football-frenzied revelers will be partying in Northern California before Peyton Manning and Cam Newton battle it out for the Super Bowl title. On February 5, The Red Hot Chili Peppers will take the stage at Mark Cuban’s AXS TV’s co-hosted concert. Dave Matthews Band takes the stage on Thursday night and Pharrell performs on Friday, February 5. The private estate of Jillian Manus, will be hosting a charity-event to raise money for local charities, with co-hosts Joe Montana and Matt Williams. Jay Leno will be the emcee for the night. Invitation only.
Celebrities will be flocking to the ESPN 12th annual Super Bowl event, ESPN the Party, on February 5, in San Francisco. In conjunction with the release of ESPN’s Super Bowl magazine issue, the event, by invitation-only, will feature a special live performance by Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Nick Jonas, along with music by D-Nice, ESPN will take over the Festival Pavillion in Fort Mason.
