HOLLYWOOD—Sometimes you have to wonder why people rant on social media? While I’m not a psychiatrist, I did study psychology in college. Let’s take Facebook, its a great way for cowards to express anger or admonish people publicly. They don’t like confrontations, so they write a rant indirectly about the person who is the subject of their frustration.

Just like a 5 year-old, they have a tantrum. Basically a coward looking for people to respond so they need instant gratification to their ignorant tirade. People rant or fume to gain sympathy or condolences from friends. They need a platform that they have complete control over, as they may have no control elsewhere in their lives. You really need to be careful these days what you post on social media.

Celebrity rants are funnier, than those non-famous people. Celebrities live in a different world. That’s not where most of us reside. These days a famous leaking of an X-rated tape and the next thing you know you have your own reality TV show. Yes, sometimes the whole family comes along for the ride. Some of us would be mortified to have the whole world watching our intimate moments.

Now, it’s a great career move. Here’s something else, once on the internet, it’s not going away, ever. Which means years down the road when your kids Google you, they will be treated to all the rants and petty drama, drunken selfies, all the things you should be embarrassed about now and definitely will be then. Now, I have to admit some of the rants are entertaining as heck. Watching folks going at each other in an online version of what we used to call a “petty fight,” can be fun. Pointless- no one wins these things, but enjoyable to those on the outside looking in. It used to be what transpired in private had a decent chance of staying private. No, not anymore, they lash out a declaration of war on Facebook or Twitter.

Anyone remember Mel Gibson, when he was caught on tape going on a rant. The actor has become better known for his rants than his movies. Back in 2006, he ranted Anti-Semitic remarks. Then in 2010, a voicemail rant purported to be left by Mel Gibson to Oksana Grigorieva was leaked to the press and a firestorm ensued. The Oscar-winner went on a tirade. No stranger to controversy, the actor-once lauded as one of Hollywood’s biggest success stories, has fallen on hard times over the last few years. Between arrests, violent rants and Anti-Semitic comments, Gibson’s image has taken a serious hit.

Let’s not forget Alec Baldwin, who loves to rant. Prior to the power of the internet’s ability to spread news like wildfire and when Baldwin was married to the beautiful actress Kim Basinger, the actor was no stranger to confrontation. In October 1995, Baldwin was placed under citizen’s arrest, according to the LAPD, after he allegedly slugged a cameraman who was trying to get video of his three-day-old daughter Ireland.

You may recall in 2007, before Baldwin was one of Twitter’s most talked about celebrities, he was ranting on the phone. His daughter allegedly missed a phone call with Alec, he left her a voicemail, which was leaked to the media. She was 11 at the time. According to published reports, the two enjoy a close relationship.

Kanye West who loves to rant sat down with Ellen DeGeneres last week, started off as tame, got very intense very quickly. The 38-year-old rapper who is married to Kim Kardashian went on a lengthy diatribe about humanity, artistry and the importance of loving life. West revealed he never regretted anything he’s ever tweeted. West, however, admitted that tweeting Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg to ask for $53 million dollars was a mistake.

He didn’t however, mention anything about being sued by a Hungarian rock singer who has accused West of sampling his work without permission on the 2013 song “New Slaves.” Gabor Presser filed for damages of at least $2.5 million at New York’s US District Court. Presser claims one-third of “New Slaves,” from West’s album Yeezus, is an unauthorized copy of the 1969 song Gyongyhaju Lany. Lawyers for West and Sony/ATV Music Publishing LLC have yet to comment.

Kanye West’s mother-in-law, Kris Jenner, the matriarch of the Kardashian-family empire wants to change her name back to Kardashian. Kris was a Kardashian until she divorced Robert Kardashian in 1991 and married Bruce Jenner, aka Caitlyn Jenner. Meanwhile, Rob Kardashian is engaged to his now-fiancee Blac Chyna, who is expecting. The saga continues.
