HOLLYWOOD—We have turned Cinco de Mayo into another reason to eat, drink and celebrate. You don’t have to be Mexican to celebrate with endless pitchers of margaritas and guacamole. It’s Spanish for “fifth of May,” Cinco de Mayo is a day of celebration in Puebla, Mexico, and other parts of the country that celebrate the Mexican army’s win over the French at the Battle of Puebla in May 1862. The celebration has really gone global and people celebrate the day like St. Patrick’s Day, Chinese New Year, and Oktoberfest. It’s a great excuse to enjoy the celebration with good friends.
Some ladies won’t be celebrating, they may be crying themselves to sleep because they are a bit disappointed that George Clooney might be off the market. People reports, that the Oscar winner, George Clooney, 52 is engaged to British human rights attorney Amal Alamuddin, 36, who was spotted with a rock on her left ring finger late last week. Of course, Clooney’s rep isn’t commenting on the news. The actor/director was married once before, to actress Talia Balsam, from 1989 to 1993.
This was big news in the celebrity-sphere, since Clooney, Hollywood’s favorite A-list playboy had vowed he was never getting married. I guess never say never. It was all over Twitter, then it just faded. The reaction seemed to be, what does she see in him? We understand he likes his privacy, but that all comes with the territory of being an A-lister. So who is this woman? Why couldn’t the other countless women in his life, lock him down?
Alamuddin is an accomplished international attorney with a very impressive background. She’s trilingual, she clerked for Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayer; represented Wikileaks founder Julian Assange; and advised Kofi Annan regarding matters in Syria. I would say she’s very interesting and Clooney is intrigued. George Clooney has come a long way since Doug Ross, as the rakishly, handsome, pediatrician back on NBC’s “ER.”
Let’s see when the Alamuddin-Clooney wedding invitations will be sent out. The much-anticipated wedding of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West is one step closer with the invitations being sent out. According to Entertainment Tonight, the invitations urge the guests to “save the date,” which we all know is on May 24 in France.
While Jay-Z and Beyonce are not expected to attend the wedding because they don’t want to appear on the reality show “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” he is making up for it by coughing up money for a yacht rental for the honeymoon as a wedding gift. He is also throwing him a lavish stag at Jay-Z club 40/40. So we will see if Jay-Z and Beyonce will attend. It’s really doubtful since the couple announced a joint summer tour that will take them to 16 cities in North America, starting in June. The tour will launch in Miamion June 25 and wind down in San Franciscoon August 5.
