Chase Leads Police Over Bridge

SAN FRANCISCO—A high-speed chase on Monday, April 6 across the Bay Bridge and through San Francisco city streets led to the arrest of two Oakland carjacking suspects.

The Chevrolet Impala driven by the suspects was originally stolen in Stockton and was first spotted by law enforcement driving through Interstate Highway 580 near Oakland’s Lakeshore Avenue. Oakland police called for CHP assistance at 10:40 a.m., a call that sparked the chase to San Francisco.

The chase ended when the suspects crashed their vehicle into a number of others, creating a pileup near Market and Gough Streets. Following the crash, both suspects attempted to flee on foot, but were quickly detained and taken into custody.

Road closures and a heavy police presence remained in place at the site of the crash for several hours. In total, two vehicles were totaled in the crash.
