RIVERSIDE—California Highway Patrol Officer, Andre Moye Jr. was shot and killed during a shootout on freeway 215 on Tuesday, August 13.
During a routine traffic stop, Officer Moye pulled over a White GMC pick-up truck. Officer Moye was in the process of calling to have the truck towed and impounded, when the driver of the truck opened fire with a rifle he had inside the vehicle.
Officers from California Highway Patrol, Riverside Police Department, and the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department responded to the call of shots being fired with officer down and two injured.
Officer Moye was transported via helicopter to a local hospital where he died from injuries sustained.
Two California Highway Patrol Officers were injured after being shot in the leg. Neither injury was life-threatening.
California Highway Patrol held a press conference that can be seen via YouTube about the shooting.
The California Highway Patrol Inland Division tweeted “Yesterday evening, Riverside CHP officers were involved in an OIS. We want to take this time to thank our community and allied agencies for their thoughts and prayers. Officer Moye was a four-year veteran with the CHP. He leaves behind his wife, his parents, a step-parent, and siblings. He is the fourth California police officer killed this year.
Officers from the Almeda Police Department will be wearing bands of mourning in honor of their lost comrade. Details about the name of the suspect has not been disclosed to the public.
