LOS ANGELES—Singer Chris Brown, 27, was arrested on Tuesday, August 30, after a close to 14-hour standoff with the Los Angeles Police Department, according to reports. Brown was arrested for suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and was later released on a $250,000 bail.

The Los Angeles Police Department arrived at Brown’s home around 3 a.m. on August 30 after receiving a call from a woman needing assistance. A guest at Brown’s house, Baylee Curran, told “Good Morning America” that Brown had pointed a gun at her and became angry after she complimented another man’s jewelry. Brown denied any wrongdoing through social media including posting videos on his Instagram account inviting police to obtain a search warrant.

The investigation was transferred to the LAPD Robbery Homicide division due to it being a high profile case. A search warrant was served and everyone in Brown’s home was brought outside as the police did a protective sweep of the home. The police said Brown was cooperative and did not confirm whether weapons were recovered from the home. TMZ reported that a duffel bag was thrown out of a window of Brown’s house containing two guns and drugs.

Authorities indicated that all occupants of the home would be interviewed about the incident. Brown was released on his $250,000 bail at 11:19 p.m. on August 30, and his next court date is scheduled for September 20. The LAPD told Canyon News that no new updates have been made to Brown’s case.

“Thanks to everyone for their support and well wishes,” Brown’s attorney, Mark Geragos, posted on Twitter after Brown was released. “Chris is out and well. The allegations against him are demonstrably false #TeamBreezy.”

Brown has won six awards throughout his singing career. He won three BET Awards, two MTV Video Music Awards, and one Grammy for Best R&B Album in 2012. His latest album “Royalty” was released last year. Brown had a previous run-in with the law back in 2009 when he was arrested for assaulting his then girlfriend, singer Rihanna.
