SAN FRANCISCO─Members of the community are raising funds for an elderly victim who was raped several times by Manuel Jesus Amador, 47, in May.

The incident occurred in the Outer Mission District, where the 74 year-old woman was taking a morning walk when Amador dragged her into his home. She was held captive for several hours and was reportedly bitten by a dog as he raped her multiple times. Amador left the victim semi-conscious on the street. A neighbor spotted the victim lying in the street and called authorities.

Amador was arrested on May 17 and charged rape, assault with a deadly weapon, assault by means likely to cause great bodily injury, kidnapping, kidnapping for ransom, false imprisonment, battery causing serious bodily injury and elder abuse. He pleaded not guilty to charges against him.

The victim has been recovering, but is still unable to walk. Several concerned community leaders and local officers met at a local bakery to rally funds. Johnny Vong, a local officer commended the victim’s emotional strength and care for other’s safety. The Ingleside Station police captain urged the public to contact 911 for any sign of suspicious activity. He warned against the elderly traveling alone, encouraging them to travel with friends or family.

The victim’s two daughters have taken time off of work to take care of their recovering mother. To support the victim’s recovery, her family has created a fundraiser organized by the San Francisco Shanghai Association.
