SAN FRANCISCO—Barnaby Jack, a popular computer hacker, died on Thursday, July 25. Jack was most famous for his ability to find bugs in computers that were inside medical devices such as pacemakers.

He was also known to have the ability to make an ATM machine dispense cash by hacking into it.

Jack was on his way to the Black Hat hacker convention where he was going to discuss how to hack implanted heart devices that can kill their user. According to reports, Jack was in his mid-30s when he died. The medical examiner has not issued an exact cause of death.

His last known employer IO Active Inc., released the following tweet in response to his passing. “Lost but never forgotten our beloved pirate, Barnaby Jack has passed.”
