SAN FRANCISCO—The city of San Francisco has been labeled as the fourth congested city in the United States, with Los Angeles taking the top spot. People spend an average of 42 hours per year in traffic.

The traffic data company INRIX surveyed 1,064 cities on five continents in 2016. The city of San Francisco ranked fourth for the worst traffic congestion in the world.

Bogota, Colombia landed in fifth place, followed behind Sao Paulo, London, Atlanta, Paris and Miami for the top 10. Bob Pishue who works in the economics department for INRIX.

“The demand for driving is expected to continue to rise, while the supply of roadway will remain flat,” said Pishue to CBS San Francisco News.

Traffic commutes increase by an average of 53 percent during the morning and  increases by 58 percent during evening hours.
