SAN FRANCISCO—San Francisco’s Mission District was the site of a hit-and-run crash that created a pileup on the 1000 block of Mission Street.

Former California Assemblyman and community activist Tony Ammiano, a cab driver, and a police officer were among those victimized by the driver of the Mercedes Benz responsible for the crash.

None involved in the crash were critically injured, however, the police officer was transported to the hospital and a friend driving with Ammiano suffered a gash to her head.

Ammiano, former president of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, is a an LGBT activist who was en route to a community event before the Mercedes blindsided him and five other vehicles.

Officers eventually caught-up with the driver responsible for the crash, who allegedly ran from police and even attempted reaching for an arresting officer’s firearm. Following the suspect’s arrest, it was revealed that the driver of the Mercedes was wanted in a prior aggravated assault case.
