HOLLYWOOD—Well I guess it’s the second sleeper hit of the summer beyond “The Meg.” I’m referring to “Crazy Rich Asians” which hasn’t fallen below the $25 million mark at the box-office since being unleashed in theaters on August 15. To date the dramedy which stars and all-Asian cast has earned over $100 million at the domestic box-office.

For the Labor Day holiday the flick earned over $28 million. The shark adventure “The Meg” tallied up $12 million during the four-day holiday weekend to bring its domestic total at the box-office to over $120 million since its release on August 10.

“Mission: Impossible – Fallout” landed in fourth place with just over $9 million. Since its release at the end of July the sixth installment in the Tom Cruise franchise has earned over $200 million at the domestic box-office. The thriller “Operation Finale” debuted in fourth place with $7.8 million, while the drama searching starring Jon Chu rounded out the top five “Searching” with $7.7 million.

So with Labor Day far beyond us, it’s time to kick-off the fall movie season and it will be an interesting battle this weekend at the box-office as the action-thriller, “Peppermint” starring Jennifer Garner does battle with the horror flick “The Nun” which looks absolutely terrifying. Dare I say this is the first weekend in a long-time I’m eager to see both new releases at the exact same time!
