SAN JOSE—Citing insufficient evidence, the Santa Clara District Attorney’s Office announced on Monday that domestic abuse charges will not be brought against 49’ers defensive end Ray McDonald.

The accusations against McDonald were just one of many high-profile storylines fitting into the recent controversy concerning domestic violence on the part of NFL players.
On August 31st, McDonald was arrested in his San Jose home on suspicion of domestic violence against an alleged victim believed to be his fiancé.
Monday, the case was dropped due to conflicting versions of events, a lack of eyewitness accounts, and cooperation on the part of the alleged victim.
Unlike other players recently accused of domestic violence, including Adrian Pererson and Jonathan Dwyer, McDonald has avoided suspension, playing in every game for the Niners this year.
