SAN FRANCISCO—Last weekend’s fire in downtown San Francisco severely damaged a three-story apartment building and displaced eight of the building’s tenants.

The fire, reported at approximately 9 a.m. on April 18 prompted the San Francisco Fire Department response to the building, located at 780 Pine Street, just east of the crossing of Pine and Powell streets.

Though nobody was injured in the fire, the eight displaced tenants find themselves without homes and the comforts of home. The American Red Cross has joined the effort to support the eight Downtown residents.

The fire, reportedly started in the building’s trash chute, sent flames burning to the very top of the structure. Destroying an outdoor staircase, the blaze burned through three stories to the building’s attic before firefighters were able to successfully contain it after a 45 minute battle.

There were no reports of any injuries, but eight tenants found themselves being displaced because of the fire. The American Red Cross has joined the effort to support the eight Downtown residents.
