SAN FRANCISCO—A young woman and her father were killed in a house fire on Wednesday, September 18. Officials from the San Francisco Fire Department were sent to the Mission Terrace home at 2:07 a.m. where they had to force entry into the residence. 

The fire was announced under control at 3:10 a.m. The victims have been identified as Camila Ron Ruiz, 23, and Ricardo Ron, 71. Both victims were taken to the hospital where, Camila was pronounced deceased. Her father passed away shortly after. The cause of death for both victims was the result of smoke inhalation. 

23-year-old Camila Ron Ruiz was about to start law school before being killed in a house fire.

District 11 Board of Supervisor, Ahsha Safai, released a statement via Twitter noting the fire as a tragedy for the entire community. 

“Both Ricxardo Ron and Camila Ron Ruiz unfortunately lost their lives to this fire. I send my most heartfelt condolences and am committed to working with the family to make sure they are supported during this time of terrible loss. It is critical that each household in the community is equipped with the proper fire safety equipment so we can prevent tragedies like this from occurring in the future,” said Safai.

The family’s dog also died in the fire. Neighbors have flooded the victim’s home with flowers and photos. The San Francisco Police Department are still investigating the cause of the fire, but it has been determined arson was not a factor.
