SAN FRANCISCO—A 37-year-old U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent working at San Francisco International Airport near South San Francisco was arrested on child porn charges. Gilbert Lam was arrested at his San Francisco home on March 9 and is scheduled to be arraigned on March 26 on two felony charges of distributing and possession of child pornography.

The investigation began in August 2011 when San Jose police began a child porn investigation and eventually identified Lam as a suspect. They contacted the San Francisco police and authorities served search warrants at Lam’s home where they confiscated several electronic devices.

Over 80 porn videos were found in Lam’s possession, including videos of children younger than ten years old. In addition, Lam allegedly distributed child pornography via the Internet through BitTorrent or other methods.

Lam remains in custody with a bail set at $250,000. If he is convicted, Lam would have to register as a sex offender for life and could face up to three years in prison.

“We do not tolerate corruption or abuse within our ranks, and we fully cooperate with any criminal or administrative investigations of alleged misconduct by any of our personnel, on or off duty,” said U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials in a released statement.
