SAN JOSE—Just 12 seconds after midnight on New Year’s a baby girl was born, reportedly making her the first Bay Area baby of 2017.

Grace Emily Moreno was born at O’Conner Hospital to Leslie and Edwin Moreno in San Jose. She is the couple’s third child.

“We wanted to actually have her before New Year’s, but it actually feels amazing to have her on New Year’s. It was a great surprise,” Leslie said to NBC Bay Area News.

According to her father, the New Year’s baby weighed 6 pounds and 11 ounces and is 20 inches long.

“Everything went perfect, thanks to the nurses and Dr. Dale Capulong,” who delivered the baby, Edwin told ABC 7 News.

Coincidentally, Grace and her father were born in the same hospital and delivered by the same doctor 22 years apart.

“It’s a very small world,” Edwin said to ABC 7 News.

The Morenos live in San Diego County at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. Edwin is a Marine stationed at the base, but the couple was visiting family in San Jose for the holidays and did not expect for Leslie to go into labor on New Year’s Eve or in the Bay Area.

“God knows when the baby’s born, and that’s what matters,” Edwin said to ABC 7 News.
