SAN FRANCISCO—The San Francisco 49ers coaching search has taken another turn.

Though defensive coordinator Vic Fangio was thought by many to be the lead candidate to replace Jim Harbaugh as the 49ers head coach, the team has not had a follow-up interview with Fangio since interviewing him the Tuesday after Harbaugh and the team mutually parted ways.

Now, it appears San Francisco is making a strong push for the services of current Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase, who has overseen one of the NFL’s most prolific offenses during his time in Denver.

A one-time assistant in San Francisco, Gase interviewed with the team on January 2, and is scheduled for a follow-up interview. No other coach has been offered more than one interview with the team.

A hot coaching commodity, Gase has also interviewed with the Broncos, Atlanta Falcons, and Chicago Bears.
