WASHINGTON D.C.Haywood Gilliam, a San Francisco business lawyer, has officially been appointed a federal judge, following his nomination by President Barrack Obama and confirmation by the Senate.

The president nominated Gillian back in August in order to replace Claudia Wilken in the Northern District of California. Wilken will transfer to Oakland at the end of the year.

Gilliam, 45, studied at Yale University and Stanford Law, and practiced as an assistant U.S. attorney in San Francisco between 1999 and 2006. After that, he was a partner at the law firm Covington & Burlington, where he practiced business law.

Senator Dian Feinstein recommended the nomination to the president.

“Haywood Gilliam has an outstanding record as a federal prosecutor in the Northern District and a private practitioner,” Feinstein said.
