SAN FRANCISCO—Kabibe, a 15-month-old female gorilla, was killed at the San Francisco Zoo after she was crushed by a closing hydraulic door on November 10.

Kabibe, whose name means “little lady” in Swahili, was one of seven gorillas living at the zoo. A main attraction, the gorilla was a favorite of the zoo’s primate staff, who tended to Kabibe for four months after she failed to bond with her mother.

According to reports, the door’s manual shut-off switch was functioning in tests following the accident.
