HOLLYWOOD—There were new movies in theaters, this weekend, but none were competition for previous flicks in theaters. Last week’s box-office champ, “Hidden Figures” ruled supreme for a second consecutive weekend earning over $25 million during the four-day Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend.
Impressive the flick doesn’t appear to have dropped in its box-office performance from the previous week. After 2 weeks in theaters, “Hidden Figures” has already crossed the $50 million mark at the domestic box-office. Sitting comfortable in second place was the animated feature “Sing” with another $18 million. “Sing” is edging itself closer to crossing the $250 million mark at the domestic box-office.
Landing in third place was the musical “La La Land” with a little over $17 million. Looks like the musical is not only a hit with critics, but moviegoers as well! Since its December release, the film has earned over $70 million at the domestic box-office. Earning fourth place was “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” adding around $17 million to its tally. The flick is close to hitting the $1 billion mark at the global box-office.
Rounding out the top five was the horror flick “The Bye Bye Man” with $15 million. The drama “Patriot’s Day” landed in sixth place earning around $14.3 million. This weekend sees the release of the thriller “Split,” “The Founder” and “XXX: The Return of Xander Cage.”
