HOLLYWOOD—It was an interesting weekend at the box-office, as the previous weekend’s champ, “The Lion King” took on the spin-off “Hobbs & Shaw.” With one dominating the box-office for the past two weeks, the other hoping to capitalize on the success of the “Fast & Furious” franchise. In the end, it was “Hobbs & Shaw” which dazzled audiences with an impressive $60 million haul to dethrone “The Lion King” from the top spot. The action-adventure cost a pretty penny to produce, so here’s hoping it can recoup its earnings at the domestic box-office.

Overseas, the flick is already off to a great start with over $120 million. Falling to second place was “The Lion King” with $38 million. Since its release on July 19, the live-action adventure has since amounted over $430 million at the domestic box-office. Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” landed in third place with $20 million. After 2 weeks in theaters, the flick has earned over $78 million at the domestic box-office.

Peter Parker and “Spider-Man: Far From Home” dropped to fourth place with $7.8 million to bring its domestic total to just over $360 million. Rounding out the top five was “Toy Story 4” with $7.2 million. Since its release in June, “Toy Story 4” has grossed over $410 million. I expect “Hobbs & Shaw” to win the box-office this coming weekend, as the competition is not that powerful. We have the drama “The Kitchen” starring Melissa McCarthy, Elisabeth Moss and Tiffany Haddish.” There is also the horror flick “Scary Stories To Tell in the Dark,” but I don’t see either flick being much of a threat for “Hobbs & Shaw.”
