HOLLYWOOD—The history of weddings being celebrated during the month of June dates back to Roman times; over two thousand years ago. Each year on June 1, the Romans celebrated a festival in honor of the deity Juno; wife of Jupiter, and goddess of marriage and childbirth. During the 1500s, June was considered to be the time when people would go outdoors after a long winter. June weddings also come from the Celtic calendar, and the month of June has always been perceived as the ideal month to get married.

Over the centuries, a contract was created in order to financially protect women against divorce or widowhood; setting rigid financial obligations to the husband. This contract became recognized to be the prenuptial agreement, better known today as a prenup, and was originally intended to make marriages more stable by making divorces more expensive. In the United States, a prenup is enforced by the five requirements: The agreement must be in writing; it must be executed at will; it must be executed at full disclosure at the time of execution; it cannot be extremely unjust; and must be executed by both parties.

It’s no surprise that celebrities decide to sign prenuptial agreements before saying “I do,” especially when each partner is worth millions of dollars. Let’s look at the marriage of Beyonce and Jay-Z. According to published reports, when Queen Bey married Jay-Z back in 2008, their prenup stated that Beyonce would be entitled to a hefty sum of $5 million for every child she bears, as well as $1 million for every year the couple is married.

Another interesting prenup is that of Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom. According to her prenup, Khloe is entitled to their house, a brand new car at the end of every lease term, $6,000 a month for shopping and beauty upkeep, $25,000 a month for general support, and $500,000 for every year the duo is married (for up to half the length of their marriage). Lamar waived his right to seek spousal support from Khloe and any claims to money she earned from the Kardashian Empire. Khloe also remains as the beneficiary on a $10 million life insurance policy Lamar has. According to reports, Khloe also stated that she requested lifetime passes for her entire family to attend Laker’s games.

Nicole Kidman, who is worth an estimated $130 million, and her country-singer husband, Keith Urban, married in June 2006. If the couple decided to split, Keith will receive $640,000 for every year of marriage; unless he uses drugs (Keith was a former cocaine addict). The agreement also states that they would have joint custody of their two daughters.

Can you imagine Brangelina having a prenup? Well, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are worth more than $400 million together. They agreed that each person would hypothetically leave with the millions they brought into the union on their own, while anything they earn as a married couple would be funneled into a trust fund for their six children. Under the terms, it states that if Brad is unfaithful, Angelina would be granted primary custody of their children.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan were married back in 2012. Zuckerberg is worth an estimated $35.1 billion. They signed a dating prenup in which the Facebook founder agreed to one date per week, a minimum of a hundred minutes of alone time; not in his apartment and definitely not at Facebook. Although the couple never signed an official prenup, Zuckerberg’s fortune is protected because California is a community-property state. In the event of a divorce, spouses are entitled to half of everything earned during the marriage, however any assets prior to saying “I do” are to remain separate.

Kim Kardashian, the media mogul, is worth an estimated $85 million. Her rapper-turned designer husband, Kanye West is reportedly worth $130 million. Although Kanye didn’t think the couple needed a prenuptial agreement, the pair agreed to one due to Kim’s quick marriage to Kris Humphries.

The prenup states that Kim is entitled to $1 million for every year of being married to Kanye, as well as their Bel Air mansion, all jewelry and gifts given to her by Kanye, the money she earns from her TV reality show, her clothing line and any money from promotional appearances will be considered her separate and sole income. Kanye’s life insurance policies are valued at $20 million, and names his wife as the beneficiary for life; even if they get a divorce. There are no clauses in the agreement for Kimye concerning custody of their children.
