HOLLYWOOD—Another week at the box-office, another surprise in terms of the victor. This weekend, the adaptation of a popular kid’s book by horror director Eli Roth reigned supreme. “The House With a Clock in its Walls” ran away with the competition with an impressive $26.9 million. I did not expect this flick to come anywhere close to $20 million, but far exceeded the expectations. The film may have some legs coming into the next weekend, but come October all changes as Oscar fare and some highly anticipated flicks are unleashed in theaters.

Now, here is the surprise, the thriller, “A Simple Favor” which debuted in second place last week managed to jump to second place this week with $10.4 million. Very interesting development as I argued good word of mouth buzz is working in their flick’s favor. The movie starring Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively has since earned over $32 million at the domestic box-office. Dropping to third place was the horror film “The Nun” which added another $10.3 million. “The Nun” has since amounted over $100 million at the domestic box-office.

Last week’s winner, “The Predator” dropped to fourth place with a meek $8.7 million. Not good for the franchise at all. The remake has only earned a little over $40 million since its release. Rounding out the top five was the dramedy “Crazy Rich Asians” which earned $6.5 million. The film has since earned $160 million since its release back in August.
