UNITED STATES—On Tuesday, November 19, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a stopgap vote, to fund the government and prevent a shutdown until December 20. The final vote tally was 231-192 with 10 Democrats voting against and 12 Republicans voting in favor of the continuing resolution.

President Donald Trump is expected to sign the resolution upon passing in the U.S. Senate. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell indicated that he would take up the bill providing it did not include any contentious policy riders in it.

The temporary spending bill would extend three Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act provisions, including spending for the 2020 Census, provide for a 3.0 percent raise for military troops, and include a spending measure for Import-Export Bank. Both parties are still at odds over border security. Senate Republicans voted for the bill to include an additional $5 billion for a border wall.

If the bill does pass the House and the Senate, funding would end right when a vote is expected to determine whether President Trump is guilty of an impeachable offense or not. Public impeachment hearings are currently underway on Capitol Hill.
