HOLLYWOOD—Amy Schumer plays a woman who struggles with feelings of deep insecurity and low-self esteem in the film “I Feel Pretty.” The comedian’s high-concept body image satire- begins with a nasty concussion that gives her chubby character a shot of confidence.

We all know that real women have curves, like Sophia Loren. Unfortunately, for Hollywood and many American women thin is in. They miss out on the beauty that lies within. The fashion industry however feels different, thus the film “The Devil Wears Prada,” displays the thin super-models that grace the cover of Vogue magazine.

The “Trainwreck,” star plays Renee Bennett, a voluptuous women deeply insecure working in the New York beauty industry aspires to move up the ladder in her company. She works in a Chinatown basement halfway across town from Lilly LeClaire Cosmetics. She aspires to work in the headquarters where the interns are like the models of “Devil Wears Prada.”

After the fall on the head, Renee turns to Spanx and pink short-skirts. Her self-confidence is amazing. Her realistic-looking friends are played by Aidy Bryant and Busy Philipps. Renee felt humiliated at her spin-class, which is basically similar to the film classics “13 Going on 30” and “Big.” Renee suddenly believes that she has a flawless, super-model body. The funny twist: The only thing that’s changed is how she perceives herself in the mirror. Physically, nothing has changed.

It’s a female-targeted romantic comedy that wants the audience to feel good about themselves and aspires to make everyone feel beautiful. The heroine makes the audience feel that while she goes through a series of mortifying social situations like the bikini competition, in the end she feels great about herself. Before the accident, Renee would never have the audacity to apply for the out-of-reach receptionist job at her company’s main office- which those who’ve come before have used it as a stepping-stone to a modeling career. But for Renee, things changed and the company founder Lily LeClaire played by former model Lauren Hutton, who launched a “diffusion line” designed to serve those who don’t roll out of bad looking like Kim Kardashian.

Hutton, disgusted that no one has any fashion sense, she turns to her glamorous granddaughter Avery played by Michele Williams, who reprises her high-helium, high -pitched Marilyn Monroe voice in what is perhaps the funniest role of her career. She doesn’t seem to know that much about frugal, budget-conscious shoppers that go to Target. She hires Renee, who is quite savvy in fashion. She comes up with fabulous ideas for the company and is whisked away on private jets and the best hotel suites, all the company tab.

As the film unfolds a wish-fulfillment story is seen without the magic witchery. In fact, “I Feel Pretty,” Renee’s transformation takes place solely in her head, while her friends and her boyfriend are left puzzled by her sudden change of positive attitude. A concept that asks the question, why does society encourage women to second-guess their self-image. Beauty starts from the inside, she even learned that pencil-thinned, beautiful women even get dumped. A scene from the gym locker room, when you see the beautiful girl crushed that her boyfriend dumped her. Truth-be-told, Schumer is just as attractive as the other women. The film portrays her as a dumpy, frumpy woman. Yet, she is totally beautiful. The audience laughed at the exact, precise moments and it made everyone feel good.

Schumer, ironically when she was starting out as a stand-up comic, many people dismissed her. She has beauty and talent and has proved many agents and booking agents wrong. Schumer once again proved everyone wrong and has aced the film. In her interview with Oprah, the Almighty Oprah agreed that anyone who leaves a movie feeling good and having a good laugh is worth everything. If you haven’t seen the movie yet, it’s a must-see that makes you feel good about yourself. Who doesn’t want to feel good about themselves? The film opened April 20, it’s her third starring role.

Days after the opening of “I Feel Good,” Amy Schumer revealed on Instagram that she spent the week in the hospital feeling pretty sick. In her Instagram post you see the actress lying in a hospital bed and hooked up to an IV. Schumer said, she was “hospitalized for 5 days with a horrible kidney infection.” The 36-year-old had to cancel her European tour of promoting her new film.

Rose’s Scoop: While Tribeca Film Festival might be over, Wanderluxxe, returned for their second year, some of the stars that enjoyed the amenities were Ray Liotta, Bethany Hamilton, Lola Kirke, Jemima Kirke, Lakeith Stanfield, Dorian Missick and Emma Forrest.
