"Jurassic World" destroyed box-office records.

HOLLYWOOD—The box-office exploded with uncertain expectations this weekend as “Jurassic World” surpassed predictions. The fourth installment in the franchise broke box-office records earning more than $208.8 million. The movie now ranks as the highest debut of all-time surpassing the previous record holder “The Avengers” which earned $207.4 million back in 2012.

The dinosaur adventure starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard also tops as the highest debut of a movie all-time on the global front with over $524 million. It’s safe to say “Jurassic World” is the sleeper hit of the summer, and I don’t see any other movie reaching those heights.

Falling to second place was the comedy “Spy” which added another $16 million to its tally. After only 2 weeks the film starring Melissa McCarthy has already earned over $50 million at the domestic box-office. The disaster flick “San Andreas” continued to rattle moviegoers with $11 million. The horror thriller “Insidious: Chapter 3” found a way to scare up another $7.3 million to land in fourth place.

Rounding out the top five was the sequel “Pitch Perfect 2” with $6 million. It’s safe to say the movie will cross the $200 million mark before July. This weekend sees the release of the animated flick “Inside Out.” I think it’s safe to say “Jurassic World” might hold a grip on the box-office until the Fourth of July weekend.
