HOLLYWOOD─The nominees for the biggest accolade in the music industry were announced on Wednesday, November 20. That’s right the nominees for the 2020 Grammy Awards were unveiled and leading the pack of all contenders for the ceremony was Lizzo earning a total of 8 nominations including Album, Record and Song of the Year. Followed close behind is Billie Eilish and Lil Nas X. Lizzo will compete alongside Eilish and Lil Nas X in the Album of the Year category with other contenders Bon Iver, Lana Del Rey, Ariana Grande, H.E.R. and Vampire Weekend.

There were some notable snubs though people. No love was shown to Taylor Swift for Album of the Year for “Lover.” She was also left out of the Record of the Year race. However, Swift did pick up a nomination for Song of the Year for “Lover.” I was also surprised that the Jonas Bros. did pick up nominations in Record or Song of the Year for “Sucker” that was an inescapable hit America.

I seriously hate that the Grammys have expanded their number of contenders in the Big Four. It just opens the door to way too many nominees in my opinion, where we know a select few have no chance of victory. A partial list of this year’s nominees can be viewed below:

I would argue based on contenders next year’s ceremony will be a competitive race between Lizzo and Billie Eilish. The 2020 Grammy Awards will be handed out a bit early this year on January 26, 2020 live from the Los Angeles Staples Center. The telecast will air on CBS and singer Alicia Keys is returning to host the festivities.
